Introduction
The Propulsion Panel was constituted in 1972 with objectives to sponsor research , development and design projects in the field of Aircraft Propulsion, keeping in view the future needs of the country with regard to the development of aero-gas turbine engine for military applications. Subsequently, the panel has widened its scope of activities to cover frontier areas in aerospace propulsion and to address problems related to civil aviation.
Panel Activities
The Propulsion Panel was constituted by the AR&DB with following objectives:
To promote research and development activities related to aero-gas turbine engine and rocket propulsion. To support projects directly or indirectly related to the indigenous gas turbine engine program. Also to support basic and fundamental projects on all aspects of aircraft and rocket propulsion being undertaken at the Institutes of higher learning. The Panel has also initiated some projects related to civil aviation. The following types of project have been promoted through the Panel:
- Applied research and development projects whose outcome has a promising application as a retrofit to the engines, manufactured under license or in the new engine under consideration for development.
- Demonstration of a new/advanced concept or a measurement technique under simulated conditions of promising application in gas turbine engines/ propulsion systems.
- Generation of general purpose design data through parametric investigation and or validation of general purpose computerized design/ analysis methods experimental design data.
- Fundamental investigation to understand in depth the behavior of components/ systems and evolve a scientific basis for the explanation of their behavior, as a pursuit of knowledge related to the propulsion field.
