Distinguished Scientist and Director, Defence Electronics Research Laboratory (DLRL)

Shri Nuthi Srinivas Rao has joined as Scientist-B in DLRL, Hyderabad in October 1987. He served DLRL in various levels and contributed for Design, Development and Productionisation and successful delivery of Techniques Generator, ECM Processor, ESM Processor, System Controller, Receiver Controllers, Radar Finger Printing System & Digital Receiver for ESM/EW systems. He received Lab Level Award in 1999 for his contribution towards Design and Development of Techniques Generator of Samyukta and Laboratory Scientist of The Year Award in 2005 for his contribution towards Design and Development of ECM Processor for Ellora Shipborne EW System.

As a member of Trishul Ground System, he contributed for Design and Development of Impact Point Predictor, Simulator & Automatic Checkout Subsystem, Command Encoder, Phase Sensitive Detector & Changeover Logic subsystems of Ground System of Project Trishul of Integrated Guided Missile Development Programme (IGMDP), Hyderabad. He was a core member of flight trial team and he participated in 51 Flight trials of Trishul Missile at ITR, Chandipur and INS Dronacharya, Cochin. He received Commendation by SA to RM for “Significant Contribution made to Integrated Guided Missile Programme” in 1989.

As Project Director for Varuna, he led the project team in successful realization of Lab Model, Engineering Model and production system of Modern ESM System, Varuna. He guided the design teams for transfer of technology to M/s Bharat Electronics and for Installation of Varuna Engineering Model onboard INS Khanjar followed by 1st & 2nd Varuna Production systems onboard naval ships. He was onboard naval ships and ensured successful completion of Harbour Acceptance Trials and Sea Acceptance Trials of Engineering Model and 1st& 2nd production systems.

Shri N Srinivas Rao, received “AGNI Award for Self Reliance-2014” as a team leader for outstanding contribution made towards Design & Development, Transfer of Technology of ESM System Varuna and its acceptance by Indian Navy leading to induction of 18 Varuna ESM Systems. Navy has placed production orders for 23 more Varuna systems.

He was appointed as Programme Director for Naval EW Programme Samudrika in June 2017 and Head of Directorate of Naval Projects as Additional Director in July 2017. He has been promoted as Scientist-H in August 2017. For Samudrika Programme, he has guided the teams for progressing design and development of Seven EW/ESM systems and User Evaluation Trials and as a Head Naval Projects, for design, development, system integration and evaluation activities for the Naval Projects of DLRL. Navy has placed so far Production orders for Shakti, Nayan & Sarang Systems of Programme Samudrika. Shakti and Nayan Production Systems are inducted.

He has taken over charge as Director, DLRL on 01st April 2022 and guiding DLRL, leading the teams for development of State of the art EW Systems for Tri-Services, SI Directorate, Paramilitary forces etc. He is promoted to Distinguished Scientist (DS) on 22nd May 2023.
