Combat Vehicles Research and Development Establishment (CVRDE) is one of the premier establishment of Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO). CVRDE had its humble start as Chief Inspectorate of Mechanical Transport Establishment at Chaklala (now in Pakistan) 1929. This was subsequently moved to independent India to form Technical Development Establishment (TDE-Vehicles) at Ahmednagar. It was later transformed into Vehicles Research and Development Establishment (VRDE). Consequent to the decision of indigenous manufacture of Vijayanta Tank at Heavy Vehicles Factory (HVF), a detachment of VRDE was established at Avadi in 1965 to render R&D support to HVF. Shortly, in 1969, it was made as an independent DRDO establishment namely, VRDE, Avadi. In 1975, VRDE, Avadi was rechristened as Combat Vehicles Research and Development Establishment (CVRDE). Four decades have passed since then and to commemorate this, Ruby Jubilee Celebration is planned at CVRDE.

As part of celebration CVRDE is organising indoor exhibition.
