National Workshop on Holistic Medicare-Integrated Therapy Approach

The Defence Bio-engineering and Electro-medical Laboratory (DEBEL) and Clinical Inaugural session of the workshop in progressEngineering Society (CES), jointly organised a National Workshop on Holistic Medicare-Integrated Therapy Approach at DEBEL, Bangalore, on 5 September 2001.

Prof BM Hegde, Vice Chancellor, Manipal Academy of Higher Education, inaugurated the workshop and Dr RM Varma, Eminent Neurosurgeon and President, CES, presided over the workshop.

Shri CGS Sarma, Director, DEBEL, delivered the welcome address and outlined the significance of holistic medicare and aim of the workshop. Dr BM Hegde, in his keynote address told that scientific aspects from different alternate systems of medicare, such as ayurveda, homeopathy, naturopathy, etc. should be imbibed and integrated systems of healthcare delivery may be developed. Other invited eminent speakers on various aspects of holistic medicare included Dr KSS Bhat, Consultant Cardiologist; Dr BS Srinath, Managing Director, Bangalore Institute of Naturopathy; and Dr JP Vrunda, Department of Pranic Healing, MS Ramaiah Medical College, Bangalore.

DRDE Develops Dengue Detection Kit

The Defence Research & Development Establishment (DRDE) , Gwalior, has developed a Dengue Virus Detection Kit, based on rapid immunochromatographic technique which gives results in 30 minutes. Dengue is a mosquito borne dreaded disease prevalent in tropical and sub-tropical countries. Since the symptoms of dengue and a couple of other diseases appear to be similar, diagnosis becomes difficult for the clinicians. In case of dengue, in the primary stage, small scabies are visible over the palms of the patient. Later, these develop allover the body followed by high temperature. The scabies disappear after the on-set of fever. Suspected cases of dengue may be detected with the help of this kit for the presence or absence of antibodies.

DARL Organises Workshop on Intellectual Property Rights

The Defence Agricultural Research Laboratory (DARL), Pithoragarh, organised a workshop on Intellectual Property Rights during 26-27 September 2001. Shri V Gulwani, Addl Director and Shri Avinash Kumar, Dy Director, Dte of ER and IPR, DRDO HQrs, New Delhi, delivered lectures on various aspects of intellectual property rights, plant varieties and farmers' right protection bill,  salient provision of Indian Patent Act, TRIP agreement, patent cooperation treaty, and drafting of  patent documents. DARL scientists interacted with the experts to find out the possibilities patenting of the technology being developed.

DARL Provides Training on German Angora Rabbit

Under the project Establishment of Germ Plasm Centre of German Angora Rabbit (United Nations Development Programme), the Defence Agricultural Research Laboratory (DARL), Pithoragarh, organised a training on rabbit farming for local farmers of Munsiyari block of Pithoragarh district during 26-29 September 2001. During .the training, different aspects of rabbit farming, such as housing, feeding, breeding, management, health care and wool shearing, were taught to the, trainees with practical demonstrations. Shri Kundan Singh Tolia, Pramukh of Munsiyari block, inaugurated the programme.

DIPR Raising Day

The Defence Institute of Psychological Research (DIPR), Delhi, celebrated its 53rd Annual dior.jpg (114157 bytes)Raising Day on 29 August 2001. The event was marked by a cultural programme inaugurated by Dr W Selvamurthy, Director, DIPAS & DIPR. Earlier, a sports meet was also organised during 21-27 August 2001 in which the staff participated in table tennis, chess, badminton and carrom. The programme concluded with distribution of awards to the winners of the sports meet and the employees who have rendered excellent service in the field of R&D.

EMU Bangalore Tops in Flower Show

Estate Management Unit., DRDO Township, Bangalore, has won 28 prizes in the GARDEn Competetion organised by the Mysore Horticulture Society. It includes nine outstanding prizes, first prizes, and nine second prizes. In addition to the above, the Unit has also won the LRDE Trophy for winning maximum number of prizes among defence I military establishments.

EMU Pune Bags Green Pune Award 2001

Estate Management Unit (EMU) , Pune, has been awARDEd the Green Pune Award 2001 by the Pune Municipal Corporation on World Environment Day, for overall contribution in the field of environment control, conservation, tree plantation and spreading environmental messages to the masses. Their efforts of earlier years have also been appreciated and recognized several times byway of winning awards in various events.

The EMUs since inception, have also been pioneering their efforts to create environment-friendly residential complexes in various DRDO estates at Balasore, Bangalore, Dehradun, Delhi, Hyderabad, and Pune and other satellite stations within the jurisdiction of respective units.

INMAS Organises Brig SK Mazumdar Memorial Oration

Prof AS Paintal felicitating Prof NK GangulyInstitute of Nuclear Medicine and Allied Sciences (INMAS), Delhi, organised the 17th Brig SK Mazumdar Memorial Oration at Laser Science & Technology Centre (LASTEC) Auditorium, Delhi, on 24.September.2001. Prof.NK Ganguly, Director General, Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), delivered the oration on Challenges in Health Systems in 21st Century. Prof AS Paintal, Ex-Director General, ICMR was the Chief Guest at the function. Dr RK Sharma, Jt Secretary, welcomed the guests while Dr T Lazar Mathew, Director, INMAS and Chairman, Brig SK Mazumdar Memorial Trust, delivered the Presidential Address. Dr Mathew highlighted the background and activities of the Trust and suggested ways to improve and enhance the activities of the Trust in forthcomig years.

 

RCI & DRDL Annual Day

The Research Centre Imarat (RCI) and Defence Research & Development Laboratory (DRDL), Hyderabad, celebrated Annual Day on 27 August 2001 at RCI auditorium. Directors of both laboratories formally inaugurated the celebration by lighting the lamp. The Director, RCI, complimented RCI and DRDL community on their dedicated efforts for the successful flight trials  of missiles under IGMDP and special programmes and urged the employees to rededicate themselves to deliver the weapon system to the users. The celebrations included a cultural programme.  Shri Basha, Joint Secretary, RCI Works Committee, proposed the vote of thanks..
