Shri Ramesh Kumar has been appointed Chief of Personnel, DRDO HQrs, New Delhi wef 5 September 2001. He is a post-graduate in Industrial Systems Engineering and joined DRDO in 1964 at Defence Materials & Stores Research and Development Establishment (DMSRDE), Kanpur, where he substantially contributed in the area of process development, scale-up studies and technology transfer.
At the DRDO HQrs, New Delhi, he played a pivotal role in the development of diverse spectrum of important technologies pertaining to high performance materials and alloys, extreme cold weather systems and equipment, concealment and camouflage, etc. since 1989. As Director Environmental Safety at the Centre for Environment and Explosive Safety (CEES), Delhi, during 1992-93, he was responsible for the creation of necessary infrastructure for the implementation of statutory safety regulations in the defence establishments as well as for R&D in environmental sciences. He took over as Director, Materials in 1995 looking after materials group of laboratories, viz., DMSRDE, Kanpur; DRDE, Gwalior; CEES, Delhi; DL, Jodhpur; and DMRL, Hyderabad. He coordinated several inter-laboratory programmes on the development of critical technologies and system, and brought them to bulk production. During 1999-2000 as Director (Special Projects) he effectively contributed towards implementation of chemical weapons convention in the country. He has published several research papers and technical reports on corrosion, polymers and inverse phase gas chromatography.
Dr Ram Gopal has been appointed Director of Materials, DRDO HQrs, New Delhi, wef 4 October 2001. After obtaining his PhD degree in Chemistry from Allahabad University , he joined DRDO at CME, Pune, in 1967 and later DL, Jodhpur, in 1970 and took over as Director, DL, Jodhpur, in 1998.
Desert Science with specialisation in water quality management has been the area of his main interest. His work on water quality monitoring and surveillance has been well recognised and he was appointed as the Chief Coordinator, West Zone Regional Centre, National Drinking Water Mission, Ministry of Rural Development; and Member, Central Coordination Committee, Department of Drinking Water Supply, Government of India. He has also been elected as the President, Indian Destination Association during 1999-2001 and 2001-2003. As a Programme Director of project Sujalam, he has successfully completed a challenging task of providing safe drinking water in hard core villages in far flung area of Barmer District of Rajasthan.
He has developed a number of water quality testing and purification systems, desalination plants, water testing field kits, desalting kit, mineral mixture tablets and outfit for converting snow melted water into potable water. These items have been introduced both in the Services as well as in the civil sector.
He has also established a school of Chemical Soil Stabilisation Techniques for different military applications. Two items developed for rapid repair and construction of operational civil structures have been introduced into the Services. A technique based on polymer concrete composites for rapid runway repair has also been successfully developed.
He is a recipient of Fellowship Award-2001 by Bioved Research and Communication Centre, Allahabad; Millenium Award and Award of Excellence by Zoroastrian College, Mumbai; DRDO Technology Award; Best Paper Presentation Award from DRDO, IWWA, NAWDA, ICMR Oration, Rajbhasha Award; Hari Om Ashram; and SS Bhatnagar Award. He is President, Jodhpur-Bikaner Chapter of World Association for Vedic Studies (WAVES) , USA and Vigyan Parishad Prayag, Jodhpur . He is a life member of National Association for Blinds, Indian Rural Institute for Integrated Medicine, Disabled Rehabilitation and Training Sansthan, Naturopathy Society and Vipasana Meditation, etc.
Shri HV Srinivasa Rao has been appointed Director, Centre for Aeronautical Systems Studies and Analyses (CASSA), Bangalore, wef 17 October 2001. He obtained his BE (Electronics & Communications) from Mysore University in 1972 and ME (Aeronautics) from lndian Institute of Science, Bangalore, in 1974.
Shri Rao joined DRDO at the Defence Research & Development Laboratory (DRDL), Hyderabad, in September 1974 where he has contributed in the design and development of anti-tank missile guidance system. He has also served at Defence Electronics Applications Laboratory (DEAL), Dehradun, during 1980-1984 and has worked in the field of design and development of monopulse ground tracking system for RPVS. He joined CASSA in 1984 and has since then been heading sensor and weapon system modelling and simulation group engaged in systems analysis and software development for performance analysis, design trade-off of major defence systems. His special interest is in system studies related to EW & radar systems, combat systems and mission simulators.
Dr NK Srinivasan, Director, Centre for Aeronautical Systems Studies and Analyses (CASSA), Bangalore, took voluntary retirement from service and was relieved, on 17 October 2001. Dr Srinivasan joined CASSA on 12 December 1988 and became its Director from 1 July 1994. He contributed towards the development of software for air wargame for College of Air Warfare and Defence Services Staff College, air defence control and reporting software for Army Air Defence College, Gopalpur and a number of other software packages for the Services. He also took up the development of gunnery Arjun, part of training simulator for MBT in coordination with CVRDE, Chennai.
