Dr AS Bawa has been appointed Director, Defence Food Research Laboratory (DFRL), Mysore, wef 15 January 2001. He obtained his Masters in Food Technology from Central Food Technological Research Institute (CFTRI), Mysore, in 1974. He was awARDEd the Canadian Commonwealth Fellowship in 1978 and proceeded to the University of Guelph, Canada, Ontario, for higher studies. He completed MSc (Meat Science) and PhD (Food Science) from the University of Guelph. He has served in various capacities in the Punjab Agriculture University, Ludhiana; Guru Nanak Dev (GND} University, Amritsar; and CFTRI, Mysore. He established a new Department of Food Science and Technology at GND University in 1993 and became Dean, Faculty of Applied Science. He joined DRDO at DFRL in December 2000 as Scientist G .
Dr Bawa was awARDEd with NN Mohan Memorial Award for his best research paper on industrial importance by All India Food Preserver's Association, New Delhi, in 1986 and Gardner's Award for best research paper by AFST (I) Mysore, in 1989. He has published more than 100 research publications in national and international journals. He is life member of AFST(I) and Punjab Academy of Sciences. He has been a papersetter/examiner and member, board of studies of various universities j institutes to conduct examinations and evaluation of MSc and PhD theses. He was Principal Investigator of several projects funded by UGC, AICTE. He is a member of the Editorial Board of the Journal of Food Science & Technology brought out by AFST (I) and a referee for national and international food science-related journals.
Dr D Hanumanna has been appointed Director, Combat Vehicles Research & Development Establishmerit (CVRDE), Avadi wef 29 January 2001. He obtained MTech in Mechanical Engineering from Regional Engineering College, Warangal and PhD from lIT, Chennai. Prior to his appointment in DRDO at CVRDE in 1980, he had worked with DGI Organisation at CIV , Ahmednagar and was responsible for inspection and testing of automotive components. At CVRDE, he was associated with the development of hydraulic accessories for Main Battle Tank (MBT) Arjun, besides hydraulic components for electro hydraulic gun control system. He was responsible for coordination and integration activities of weapon system on all preproduction series tanks. He has significantly contributed in the evaluation of prototypes at various trial sites. He was also involved in coordination activities of technology transfer of MBT Arjun. As a team member of the development of Arjun, he was awARDEd with the Agni Award 1998 for excellence in self-reliance. He has 20 research publications to his credit.
Shri RC Chakraborty has been appointed Director, Defence Terrain Research Laboratory (DTRL) , Delhi, wef 1 January 2001. He did MSc in Physics and joined DRDO at the Defence Research & Development Laboratory (DRDL), Hyderabad, in 1971. At DRDL, he was associated with missile-borne and ground-based telemetry systems for surface-to-air missiles. During 1978-81, he was on deputation at the Cabinet Secretariat, New Delhi. He re-joined DRDO in 1981 at the Defence Electronics Applications Laboratory (DEAL), Deharadun. At DEAL, he worked on image processing and software development areas. He was Project Director DIPTA during 1991-95. In 1996, he became the Project Director Saroadrista and established an earth station for the reception of satellite imageries from Indian remote sensing satellites. He was conferred with Scientist of the Year Award 1995 for outstanding contributions in the field of image processing. He is a fellow of the Institution of Electronics & Telecommunication Engineers .

Dr W Selvamurthy, Director, Defence Institute of Physiology & Allied Sciences (DIPAS) and Defence Institute of Psychological Research (DIPR), both at Delhi has been elected President of the Federation of Indian Physiological Societies (FIPS) for 2001-03. FIPS is a federation of four scientific societies of India in the field of physiological sciences.
