Continuing Education Programme
Research Centre Imarat, Hyderabad, organised a course on Missile System Design
during 1-17 April 2004. Shri R N Agrawal, Director, ASL, inaugurated the course
while Dr VK Saraswat, Director, RCI presided over the valedictory function.
Defence Research & Development Establishment (DRDE), Gwalior, has organised
courses on Management of Chemical and Biological Emergencies for Ministry of
Home Affairs. These courses included: two-week course on Chemical Emergencies
for Trainers, one-week course on Biological Emergencies for Trainers, one-week
course on Chemical Emergencies for Responders, two-week course on Chemical
Emergencies for CISF, and two- week course on Chemical Emergencies for ITBP.
In addition to theoretical and practical aspects of chemical and biological
warfare, mock drill/exercises were also conducted at DRDE, Gwalior.
Defence Research & Development Laboratory (DRDL), Hyderabad, organised a
workshop on Advanced Manufacturing Technology from 30 April-1 May 2004. Shri M
Natarajan, Distinguished Scientist & CC R&D (ACE) inaugurated the workshop and
released the workshop proceedings. Prof P Radhakrishnan, Vice Chancellor,
Vellore Institute of Technology, Vellore and Shri IK Kaul, Director of
Engineering, DRDL delivered the key-note address. One-hundred and six case
studies were deliberated in 14 sessions during the workshop.
Institute of Armament Technology (IAT), Girinagar, Pune organised a POINTS-03
course for the freshly inducted scientists of DROO. Dr A Sivathanu Pillai, DS &
CC R&D (R&M and NS) inaugurated the course. Three hundred and twenty-eight
officers were in this batch including 38 lady officers. Rear Adm AK Handa, VSM,
Director & Dean welcomed the Chief Guest who delivered an interesting technical
lecture about DRDO programmes, emerging technologies and the likely scenario 100
years from now.
Defence Food Research Laboratory, (DFRL) Mysore, organised a two-day Life
Sciences Scientistsí Conference during 15-16 April 2004. Dr W Selvamurthy, CCR&D
(LS&HR) inaugurated the conference. The aim of the conference was to provide
better approach, understanding, co-operation and interaction among the
scientists of life sciences for the improvement in quality of life of Armed
personnel as well as share the R&D facilities available with the various
laboratories for better progress of research. Sixty participants from various
life sciences laboratories of DRDO attended the conference.
DRDO North Zone Cricket Tournament
Instruments Research & Development Establishment (IRDE), Dehra Dun, organised
the DRDO North Zone Cricket Tournament during 15-19 April 2004. Six teams
comprising players from 15 labs/estts participated in the tournament. Nine
matches were played in five days. Team D comprising of LASTEC and CFEES, both
from Delhi won the tournament while team A of IRDE, Dehra Dun was the runner-up.

North Zone Skiing Tournament
Shri Sachin Bharti, STA 'A', Defence Research & Development Establishment (DRDE),
Gwalior, participated in North Zone Skiing Tournament held at Solang, SASE,
Manali, during 16-22 February 2004 and secured the second position. He also
secured the third position in Down Hill event of the DRDO Skiing
Championship-2004, organised by SASE and Directorate of Mountaineering and
Allied Sports held at Solang, Manali.
The Horticulture Section of Laser Science and Technology Centre (LASTEC), Delhi,
won the Girdhari Lal Jewellers Cup on 15 February 2004 and DAHS Cup on 28
February 2004 in Mid-sized Government GARDEn Competition organised by YWCA,
Delhi; and Delhi-Agricultural Horticultural Society (DAHS), Delhi, respectively.
The artistically landscaped gARDEn terraced with wide spectrum of colourful
flowers of rare variety was appreciated by all.

Dr K Divyananda, has taken over as Zonal Public Relations Officer
(PRO) for DRDO labs/estts at Hyderabad, Pune, Visakhapatnam, Ambernath and
Ahmednagar. He obtained his PhD in Information Science from Kuvempu University,
Karnataka in 1996; and Masters of Arts from Dharwad in 1990 and joined DRDO in
the same year. He established a Media Centre for Hyderabad and Pune Zone at DRDL
campus with the cooperation of Director, DRDL within a short span of time and
many press releases were released in the process of image building of DRDO.
Dr Divyananda served as Dy Director-Information Publicity, Media and Public
Relations during the National and International events AIVA-93, HEXA-95, Aero
India International Air Show -1996, 1998 and 2001, etc.
He was the Founder and Member Secretary for establishment of Aerospace Museum
Society, Bangalore; and served as OSD for 50th Republic India project Bharat
Darshan Theme Park Project. He is the member of the Aeronautical Society of
India, Aerospace Museum Society of India, Society for Information Scientists
(SIS), Academy of Information Scientists, Bangalore.
In recognition of services rendered to profession as well as yeoman services, he
has been honoured by Urban & Rural Development Ministry; Ministry of
Cooperation, Government of Karnataka; Ministry of Civilization & Tourism,
Government of India, New Delhi.
HEMRL Celebrates Annual Day
High Energy Materials Research Laboratory (HEMRL), Pune, celebrated
its Annual Day on 1 March 2004 which was observed as Open Day for all HEMRL
employees and their families. Sports, cultural, cookery, flower arrangement,
rangoli, painting, and handicrafts competitions were organised. The employees,
who had completed 25 years of service, were felicitated with memento. Director,
HEMRL also gave away the DRDO and Lab Cash Awards to the employees. Smt Girija
