Dr SN Dube, Sci F, has been appointed Director,
Defence Research Laboratory (DRL), Tezpur w.e.f. 4 June 2004. Dr Dube has
obtained MVSc (Pharmacology) from G B Pant University of Agriculture and
Technology, Pantnagar and PhD in Pharmacology from Banaras Hindu University,
Varanasi in 1977. Prior to joining DRL, he was Joint Director at DRDE,
Gwalior. His areas of interest include pharmacological, electrophysiological
and toxicological studies of toxins, organophosphorus compounds and heavy
metals including possible therapeutic measures.

Shri B S Swami, Sci C, Naval Materials Research
Laboratory (NMRL), Ambernath, has been awARDEd PhD in Zoology by Mumbai
University for his thesis entitled, Studies on the Variability among
Macrofoulers on Test Panels exposed in Mumbai Harbour.

Dr PK Banerjee, Sci G, Director, Defence Institute of Physiology & Allied Sciences (DIPAS) Delhi, has been elected President of the Section of Medical Sciences (including Physiology) for 2004-2005 during 92nd Session of the Indian Science Congress Association.

|DL(J) Raising Day
Defence Laboratory (DL), Jodhpur, celebrated its 45th Laboratory Raising Day on 16 May 2004. Speaking on the occasion Shri R K Syal, Director, DL(J) emphasised that the technologies developed by the laboratory should be world class and should suit defence personnel. Sports events were organised prior to the final function. Director presented Scientist of the Year Award, Technical Laboratory Awards to DRDS scientists, DRTC employees, administrative & allied staff. Cash awards were also given to 19 employees.
