DRDO CELEBRATES NATIONAL TECHNOLOGY DAY
The National Technology Day was celebrated on 11 May 2003 to mark the 5th Anniversary of Shakti (Pokhran Nuclear Tests). DRDO HQrs and Delhi- based labs/ estts celebrated the occasion in a function organised by the Defence Science Forum at the Metcalfe House, Delhi, under the Chairmanship of Dr VK Aatre, SA to RM, DG R&D and Secretary, Department of Defence Research & Development. On this occasion, Dr Aatre also released the Compendium of National Science Day Orations-2003 compiled and edited by DESIDOC.
Other DRDO labs/estts in the country also celebrated the National Technology pay locally. Presentations were made and speakers were felicitated with mementoes. Highlights of celebrations at various labs / estts are reported here:
Shri Saumitra Kumar Pal, Sci E, was awARDEd for his role in developing various crucial textile items. As a part of the celebrations, a Science Quiz was organised for students and an exhibition was also organised for general public, exhibiting the technological achievements of the establishment.
Dr RP Shenoy, former Director, LRDE was the Chief Guest at the celebration and Dr TG Pai, OS, ADA was the special invitee.
Shri YST Raju, Sci D, was awARDEd for his contibution in installation of the Sophisticated Gun Control System in MBT Arjun. A quiz was also organised on the topics of various Defence and R&D activities, and current affairs.
The various technologies developed in agro-animal fields were exhibited and demonstrated. Director, DARL addressed the staff and the students of Government Girls Inter College, Pithoragarh .
A lecture entitled, DNA Finger Printing and its Applications was delivered by Lt Col S Narayanan.
An exhibition of unclassified products and technologies was displayed through charts, models and visuals which remained open for the day for family members of DLJ and school children from Jodhpur .
Shri IK Kaul, Sci G, Director of Engineering, DRDL, Hyderabad, highlighted the importance of the day. Shri Arun Kumar, Sci E was awARDEd for his work on Conceptual Design, Development and Implementation of Underwater Instrumentation and Control of Equipment.
An open house was held wherein K3, GTX- 14-UB & CF-l engines were displayed, Nearly 500 people visited the programme.
Shri A Apparao, Jt Director and his team were awARDEd with Commendation Certificate and medal for their significant contributions in the development of technology for Aerosol Formation and Detonation of Large Quantities of Fuels in Warheads.
An exhibition was arranged wherein technologies and sighting systems were displayed. Other systems, pertaining to national defence, developed at other DRDO laboratories were also demonstrated through a film show.
Dr BK Das, Sci E, presented a research paper entitled, Indigenous Development of PC- Based Video Tracker .
Shri R Kanakarajan, Sci F, was awARDEd certificate and a medal in recognition of his contributions in the field of Submarine Sonar Technology .
Scientists presented papers on current trends in Radome Evaluation and Servo Valve Technologies .
R & D(E), Pune
Shri Vipin Kumar Sharma, Sci C was felicitated for his oration on the Smart Launcher with Wireless Operation using Blue Tooth Technology. Dr Ashok Kolaskar, Vice Chancellor, Pune University was the Chief Guest.
National Centre for Automotive Testing (NCAT) was opened for the general public. A video film highlighting VRDE activities was screened, and few developed vehicles like Abhay, AAD, LAWV, MBTSupport Vehicle, Kitchen Lorry, Silent Genset Vehicle, UGV, and CNG/LPG Vehicles were also displayed/demonstrated.
