HH Loescheke Research Prize in Techniques/Instrumentation-2002

Lt Col G Himashree The Association of Physiologists and Pharmacologists of India (APPI) has awARDEd HH Loescheke Research Prize in Techniques/ Instrumentation- 2002 to Lt Col G Himashree, Dr W Selvamurthy, and Dr PK Banerjee, all from Defence Institute of Physiology and Allied Sciences (DIPAS), Delhi, for their paper entitled, Inhaled Nitric Oxide Therapy: Redefining Treatment of High Altitude Pulmonary Edema. The award was presented during the inaugural function of the National Annual Conference of Association of APPI on 18 December 2002 at the King George's Medical College, Lucknow.

National Metallurgist Day Awards instituted by Indian Institute of Metals

The Indian Institute of Metals celebrated the 40th National Metallurgist Day from 14-17 November 2002 at Vadodara. In the 40th NMD & 56th ATM 2002 Metallography Contest of IIM, organised during this occasion, the following scientists of Defence Metallurgical Research Laboratory (DMRL), Hyderabad bagged prizes:
Dr K Satya Prasad and Dr AK Mukhopadhyay-First prize in the Transmission Electron Microscopy Contest.
Mrs Vydehi Arun Joshi and Dr K Satya Prasad-Second prize in the Scanning Electron Microscopy Contest.

Indian Institute of Metals Annual Technical Meeting-2002

The Indian Institute of Metals organised its 56th Annual Technical Meeting during 14-17 November 2002 at Vadodara. Dr A Madhusudan Reddy, Sci E; Dr Amol A Gokhale, Sci F, both from DMRL, Hyderabad and Prof K Prasad Rao of Indian Institute of Technology Madras bagged the second prize for their paper entitled, Effect of Pulsed Current and Arc Oscillation on the Microstructure, Fitting Corrosion Behaviour and Tensile Properties of 1441 Grade AI-Li Alloy Welds, presented in the Poster Series in the Materials Science/Engineering and Technology Group.

Nomination to Professional Bodies

Dr G Malakondaiah, Sci G, Defence Metallurgical Research Laboratory (DMRL), Hyderabad, has been elected as Fellow of the Indian National Academy of Engineering (INAE) in recognition to his excellent contributions in the field of Engineering.

Dr YR Mahajan, Sci G, DMRL has been elected as Fellow of Andhra Pradesh Academy of Sciences by the Executive Council and the General Body of the Andhra Pradesh Academy of Sciences.
