Shri Krishnamurthy Sekhar, Sci G, has been appointed Director, Defence Research & Development Establishment (DRDE), Gwalior, wef. 2 November 2001. He obtained his BTech in Chemical Engineering from lIT, Kharagpur in 1971 and MTech in Chemical Engineering from lIT, Madras in 1973 with specialisation in Process Dynamics and Control.
Shri Sekhar joined DRDO at DRDL, Hyderabad, in 1973 as Senior Scientific Officer-II and contributed to the development of Liquid Propulsion Technology for the first 16 years. He has set up the liquid rocket engine test facility for testing 30 tons thrust liquid rocket engine. Under his able guidance first liquid propellant tank for Prithvi materialised. He has also tested and evaluated Prithvi at propulsion stage. Besides, he has contributed to the scale-up of UDMH (liquid propellant) plant and setting up a state-of-the-art flow calibration facility.
Shri Sekhar has also helped in setting up of production facilities at ten ordnance factories for the production of liquid propellants, warheads and pyromechanisms for the production of IGMDP missile systems. As Director, Reliability and Quality Assurance, he has ensured a high quality of systems and equipments development for the missile programme leading to the successful induction of Prithvi and Agni systems. He is the recipient of DRDO, award for excellence towards his contribution to liquid propulsion technology.He is a life-member of Aeronautical Society of India and the Indian Society of Aerospace Materials and Process Engineering. He has number of publications to his credit.
Dr D Banerjee, Director, Defence Metallurgical Research Laboratory (DMRL), Hyderabad, has been elected fellow of National Academy of Sciences.
Dr Arvind Bharti, Sci E, Defence Metallurgical Research Laboratory (DMRL), Hyderabad, has been elected fellow of the Institution of Engineers (India).
