CVRDE, Avadi

Combat Vehicles Research & Development Establishment (CVRDE), Avadi, organised a Technical Consultancy meet of DRDO Scientists during 3-11 February 2003. Dr D Hanumanna, Director, inaugurated the meet attended by scientists from various DRDO labs/estts. Shri S SunDAREsh, Addl Director (Tech&AP) , focussed on guidelines for freezing the requirements of technologies to be adopted for FMBT .

DRDE, Gwalior

Defence Research & Development Establishment (DRDE), Gwalior, organised a workshop on NBC Material and Sensors during 27 -28 January 2003. The workshop aimed at interaction among the participants regarding their activities, experiences, competence, expertise and facilities. Sixty- seven papers were presented including 20 oral presentations and the poster session. Shri K Sekhar, Director, delivered the Keynote address. Dr RC Malhotra, Sci F, was the Course Coordinator .

INMAS, Delhi

Institute of Nuclear Medicine & Allied Sciences (INMAS) , Delhi, organised a symposium-cum-workshop on Indigenous Dental Implant System on 1 February 2003. Lt Gen JL Sharma, A VSM, VSM, Director General Dental Services, Army HQs, was the Chief Guest. Padmashree Dr RK Bali, President, Dental Council of India, presided over the function. Dr W Selvamurthy, Outstanding Scientist and Adviser, Biomedical Sciences was. the Guest of Honour . During the workshop, surgical kit, dental implants, surgeon's brochure and patient's protocol were released by Lt Gen JL Sharma AVSM, VSM, PHDS. Lt Col SK Bhandari performed a surgery and the surgical technique of implant placement was projected live. During the surgery two external hex implants were placed in 12, 13 region of a 16 year old male patient. Dental implants along with surgical kits were given to Dental establishments of Armed Forces, President, Dental Council of India, Maulana Azad Medical College, for clinical trials and evaluation.

RCMA, Chandigarh

Regional Centre for Military Airworthiness (RCMA), Chandigarh, and 3 BRD, Air Force in association with the Aeronautical Society of India, Chandigarh Branch organised a National Seminar on Technological Developments in Aeronautics and its Impact on Maintenance during 3-4 January 2003. Air Marshal VA Patkar, AVSM, VSM, Air officer- in charge maintenance, Air HQrs(VB), New Delhi, inaugurated the seminar while Dr Kota Harinarayana, Vice Chancellor, University of Hyderabad and President, AeSI delivered the Keynote address. Dr RP Bajpai, Director , CSIO released the souvenir. Shri RP Gupta, Regional Director, RCMA, Chandigarh was the convener of the conference. Three invited talks, 23 technical papers and video presentation of LCA, ALH, Lakshya and Nishant were the highlights of the seminar.

Dr KM Rajan, Sci E, Armament Research & Development Establishment (ARDE), Pune, has been awARDEd PhD in Engineering by Indian Institute of Technology, Mumbai, for his thesis entitled, Design and Manufacture of Thrust Chambers by Flow Forming Techniques .
