R&DE(E)- Director's Profile

Shri VV Parlikar, Outstanding Scientist has taken over as Director of Research & Development Establishment (Engineers), a premier systems engineering laboratory of Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).

Born in 1961, Shri VV Parlikar joined DRDO in 1984 after completing his Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from JNTU, Hyderabad in 1983. He completed his Master's degree from IIT Bombay in 1992 with specialization in Systems and Controls. He also completed his PGDCA in 1988 from BTE Maharashtra.

As a Project Leader and Lead Designer for Missile Launching System Equipment, Shri. VV Parlikar has played a key role in the successful design, development and production of missile launchers and mission-critical Ground System Equipment for some of the prestigious missile programmes& projects of DRDO such as Akash, PG AD, MRSAM, Prahar, QRSAM, NirbhayBrahmos, to name a few. He has also contributed as a Group Leader to the successful development of a number of military engineering equipment including hyperbaric chamber, mobile power supply systems incorporating dual frequency alternator technology, integrated high pressure air supply system.

Apart from the above, he has pioneered the successful development of highly innovative and advanced technology products like Mobile Autonomous Intelligent Robotic system, Mobile Autonomous Surveillance system and swarm robotics based intelligent minefield system. He has also successfully pioneered the development of  all electrical and electromechanical servo drive technology for various military roles and applications.

As Director of  R&DE(E), he is presently guiding multi-disciplinary project teams engaged in the design and development of a number of combat and mission-critical systems and  equipment such as Modular Bridging System, Trawls System, Military Robotic Equipment, Advanced Mine Warfare Equipment, NBC Collective Protection Equipment and Launch System Equipment of Strategic and Tactical Weapon Systems.

Shri.VVParlikar is a recipient of the DRDO Technology spin-off award in 2006, theAgni Award for Excellence in self-reliance in 2007 and in 2015, the DRDO Award for path-breaking research / Outstanding Technology development in 2008 and the DRDO Scientist of the year Award in 2012. He is a fellow of the Institution of Engineers (India), member of Indian National Society for Aerospaceand Related Mechanisms (INSARM), Fluid Power Society of India (FPSI) and Institute of Smart Structures and Systems (ISSS).
