Director's Profile

Director - PXE

Sh. DK Joshi, Sc. 'G' assumed the charge of Director of Proof and Experimental Establishment (PXE) w.e.f. 1st Apr 2018. He is a Post-graduate in Applied Mathematics from Pune University. His area of specialisation is Armament-Ballistics.

Initially, he served as a lecturer in Mathematics at JSM College, Alibag, Raigad District, Maharastra. After undergoing one year “Fellowship course in Ballistics & Space Mechanics” at Institute of Armament Technology (IAT, now DIAT), he joined as Scientist ‘B’ in DRDO at ARDE, Pune in June 1987.

While at ARDE, he was responsible for system studies & analyses based on exhaustive internal & external ballistics simulations, aerodynamic configuration design & estimation of aerodynamic coefficients, stability studies, trajectory modelling & simulation, conduct of Range & Accuracy Trials, compilation of Firing Tables and development of Fire Control algorithms for various armaments stores, viz, motor bombs, artillery shells, unguided rockets, tank ammunitions, unguided aircraft bombs, Ballistic algorithms for various applications, etc.

He was associated with development of Pinaka Multi Barrel Rocket System (MBRS), 155mm X 52Cal Advance Towed Artillery Gun System (ATAGS), 155mm X 45Cal DHANUSH, Ex-OFB, Indigenous Weapon Locating Radar (SWATHI), development & production of Escape Aid Devices (EAD, power cartridges), Canopy Severance System (CSS) for LCA. He was Co-ordinator for ARMREB Research Panel related to Ballistics (BAP/ BCD/ HEMB) from 1997 to 2007.

He has contributed significantly in the field of Ballistics & Aerodynamics to establish Trajectory modeling (PMM, MPMM, 5-DoF & 6 DoF) for all unguided gun & rocket projectiles; Methodology & Techniques for System Performance Estimation & Evaluation; Developed Expertise for compilation of Firing Tables, including planning & conduct of Range & Accuracy Trials for both gun & rocket projectiles.

He is a Life Member of many professional societies, viz., Indian Mathematical Society (IMS), Aeronautical Society of India (AeSI), Indian Science Congress Association (ISCA), High Energy Materials Society of India (HEMSI), Indian Society for Aerospace & Related Mechanisms (INSARM) and Indian Academy for Industrial & Applicable Mathematics (IAIAM).
