Major achievements


  1. First reported the rebound of the Cotton Leaf Curl Multan virus, associated with cotton leaf curl disease (CLCuD) outbreak in Punjab, India (2015).
  2. Reported the high prevalence of high risk strains of Human Papilloma virus (HPV) among women attending a peripheral hospital of North-Eastern India.
  3. Molecular characterization of an insect specific flavivirus (ISF) from Culex mosquitoes, first to be reported from India.
  4. Developed rapid, sensitive and species specific PCR / multiplex PCR assay method for Trichophyton rubrum and T. mentagrophytes, dermatophytic fungi involved in cutaneous infections of humans.
  5. Developed efficacious herbal antifungal formulation (topical) against a range of fungi including dermatophytes, molds and yeasts causing superficial infections of skin and nail.
  6. Established base line data of potent phytopathogenic fungi of Camellia sinensis (Tea) of Assam – from agroterrorism perspective.
  7. Standardized SOP for oyster mushroom cultivation and vermicomposting (using high altitude native earthworm species) in high altitude, Tawang areas.
  8. Identified and established world’s hottest chilli ‘Bhut jolokia’ as new novel species based on identification of novel genes and proteins through molecular and proteomic characterization.
  9. Cost effective open and enclosed culture systems for mass cultivation of microalgae developed
  10. Standardized protocols for micro-propagation of indigenous orchids and valuable medicinal plants of NE India.
  11. Indigenous freshwater microalgae rich in PUFA identified for nutraceuticals.
  12. Ecofriendly cost effective and appropriate sanitation technology for different climate and condition.

  14. Successful demonstration of protected cultivation in high altitude regions of Tawang (Arunachal Pradesh) and remote army units and villages.

On-going activities:

  1. Development of field deployable nucleic acid amplification and protein based diagnostics for vector-borne pathogen detection.
  2. Survey and characterization of tick and mosquito-borne pathogens using molecular tools
  3. Large scale protected cultivation in high altitude areas of Tawang (Arunachal Pradesh) and beyond under programme ‘Arunodaya’.
  4. Survey, collection and analysis of cultivable areas of Tawang and West Kameng districts of Arunachal Pradesh under programme ‘Arunodaya’ for issuing soil health card to the farmers.
  5. Imparting trainings on oyster mushroom cultivation and vermicomposting to local farmers and Army units located at Tawang and adjoining areas of Arunachal Pradesh under programme ‘Arunodaya’.
  6. Development of micro propagation technology for Capsicum assamicum.
  7. Selection of elite germplasm of Capsicum assamicum.
  8. Isolation and characterization of biofertilizer candidates from high altitude areas of Tawang.
  9. Water quality survey of Tawang and West Kameng District, Training, deployment and monitoring of water purification systems
