DIPAS DRDODr Bhuvnesh Kumar, Sc 'G' is the Director, Defence Institute of Physiology and Allied Sciences (DIPAS) since 19th December 2016. He has served as Director, Defence Institute of High Altitude Research (DIHAR), Leh from 28th February 2015 to 18th December 2016.

Dr Bhuvnesh Kumar, obtained his graduate degree in Veterinary Sciences and Post graduate & Doctorate degrees in Veterinary Medicine from G.B. Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, Pantnagar (Uttarakhand).

He joined DRDO as scientist 'B' in 1985 and served since then in various capacities at many strategic locations like Pithoragarh bordering Tibet and Nepal in Uttarakhand, and Kinnaur & Lahul Spiti bordering China in Himachal for two decades to promote agro-animal technologies for augmenting fresh food availability for the troops deployed in far flung remote mountain regions in Central Himalayas.

Dr Bhuvnesh Kumar has been a member of Think Tank of DRDO, Project Director of a very prestigious programme of DRDO on Low Intensity Conflicts to Counter Terrorism and Insurgency, and the Director, Project Monitoring at Directorate General Life Sciences, DRDO HQ, Director, DIHAR, Leh before taking over as Director, DIPAS. He has vast experience of working in mountainous regions covering western, central and north eastern Himalayas.

As Director, DIHAR, Leh-Ladakh, his focus was to develop cutting edge agro-animal technologies for high altitude cold desert to boost fresh food availability round the year. With his concerted efforts, DIHAR established a world highest altitude terrestrial research station at Changle in Leh Ladakh (17,664 ft) and achieved Guinness World Record in the year 2016.

As Director, DIPAS his focus is on rapid induction & acclimatization to high altitude and enhancing combat efficiency of soldier in stressful environmental conditions through physiological, biochemical, nutritional & ergonomical approaches.

He has published more than 78 research papers in national and international peer reviewed journals, collated many reports and presented research findings in various national & international conferences. He is a member of various professional societies. Presently, he is an Advisor of Editorial Board of Asian Journal of Medical Sciences (AJMS) and BLDE university Journal of Health Sciences. Dr Bhuvnesh is a Chairman of Life Sciences Research Board Panel - Physiology of Extreme Environment and Behavioral Sciences (PEE&BS) from Dec 2016.

Dr Bhuvnesh Kumar, is a recipient of Commendation Certificate from then Scientific Advisor to Raksha Mantri, Dr APJ Abdul Kalam, Agni Award for excellence in self-reliance, Laboratory Scientist of the Year award etc. are amongst many awards to his credit.
