1. Modelling Analysis & Simulation Division (MASD)

Modelling Analysis & Simulation Division is responsible for design, analysis and related simulation of parts, components, assemblies, sub-systems and systems pertaining to various projects of ADRDE. The division is equipped with high end hardware and software's such as Autocad, Solid works, Cosmos Works, CATIA V5-R20, Ansys, Gambit, ICEM CFD, Fluent, LS-Dyna, Hypermesh, Mathcad and SYMBOLS Sonata for Bond graph modelling.

The division performs the following tasks:

  • Preparation,amendment and printing of textile and mechanical drawings
  • Solidmodelling of parts and assemblies
  • Shapeoptimization & Crash Analysis
  • Linear,Non-linear, static and dynamic Finite Element Analysis of parts andassemblies to determine following
    • Maximum stress
    • Maximum strain
    • Maximum deformation
    • Factor of safety
    • Mode shapes and Modal values
  • ComputationalFluid Dynamics Analysis of parts and assemblies to estimate-
    • forces and moments
    • pressure distribution over body
    • store separation study
  • Bondgraph modelling and simulation of multi-domain systems

2. Electronics & Instrumentation Lab

Electronics and Instrumentation (EI) section of Sensor Simulation and Control Division (SSCD) is committed to provide instrumentation support for Design & Development of parachutes, floatation systems, Heavy Drop Systems, Aerostat and allied systems. Section is equipped with various sensors and data acquisition system which is being used in different instrumentation requirements. Three types of Data Acquisition systems i.e. PC based Online Data acquisition system, Microcontroller based Onboard Data acquisition system and FM/FM Telemetry systems are being used for In house, air drop and RTRS trials of decelerators and others systems. EI section is also equipped with various sensors like load cells of different types and capacities, pressure transducers, accelerometers, impact sensors, Temperature sensors, tilt sensors and gyro etc. to capture physical parameters. EI section has successfully established the strain measurement facility for metallic structures.

Parameters which are being measured are:

  • Snatch force, Opening force and Steady force of parachute during air drop trials
  • Filling time of parachutes
  • Impact measurement during In-house impact test and airdrop trials
  • Burst pressure measurement of aerostats and scale down model of balloons and SRE floats
  • Rate of descent/ Terminal velocity of decelerators
  • Deceleration/ Acceleration profiles of payload during RTRS and airdrop trial of decelerators
  • Payload oscillation measurement
  • Strain measurement on metallic structures

3. Technology Group (Textile Engineering)-TG(TE)

Technology Group (Textile Engineering) is involved in the development of high performance technical textiles, applied research and scientific studies to meet the requirements of all the ongoing and futuristic projects at ADRDE pertaining to Parachutes, Arrester Barrier Nets & Inflatables. Primarily, the group is engaged in the following areas:

  • New textile product developments textiles for parachutes
  • Development of coated & laminated fabrics for inflatables such as Aerostats, Airships, Radomes, Floats for helicopters & sea recovery missions, etc.
  • UV and water resistant tapes for Arrester Barriers.
  • Life estimation studies on fabrics, coated fabrics & narrow fabrics.
  • Enhancement of functional properties of existing materials.

4. Textile Test Lab

Textile Test Lab is equipped with modern textile test equipment to test various parameters of textile materials viz. fabrics, tapes, cordage etc. used in Parachutes, Balloons and Aircraft Arrester Barrier. The test machine includes high & low pressure air porosity machine for air porosity of various fabrics used in the development. Universal testing machines for determination of breaking strength of fabrics, tapes, webbing's etc of capacity ranges upto 150 KN using hydraulic & pneumatic grips. Other machine includes for determination of twist and text of yarn, Bursting strength of woven, knitted fabrics, digital Air permeability tester & digital bursting strength tester.

The Textile Test Lab is equipped with the following machines:

  • Computer Controlled Zwich UTM machine.
  • Horizontal Textile testing machine.
  • Electronic air permeability tester.
  • Digital thickness tester.
  • Analytical balance.
  • Fabric inspection machine.
  • Bursting strength tester.

5. Mechanical Test Lab

Mechanical Test Lab of the establishment is equipped with facilities to test metal components right from development phase to acceptance for bulk production. This includes link test facility for testing of links upto 15 m in length and 50 tonne load used in brake parachute & heavy drop parachute system. Surface test like hardness, plating thickness and computer controlled arm machine of 20 tonne load capacity.

The Mechanical Test Lab is equipped with the following machines:

  • Digital Plating Thickness Tester.
  • Ultrasonic Flaw Detector.

6. Chemical Test Lab

Chemical Test Lab is engaged in analytical, volumetric and environmental analysis; a fundamental approach for the development & production of reliable metal/textile components used in Parachutes & allied technologies. The chemical test lab is equipped to analyse textile, metal and synthetic materials used in the arena of parachutes, balloons and allied aerial delivery systems

The Chemical Test Lab is equipped with the following machines:

  • Indigenous Vertical Flammability Test Equipment.
  • Programmable Salt Mist/Fog Chamber
  • Carbon &Sulphur Determination Apparatus
  • Direct Reading Emission Spectrometer.
  • Electronic Single Pan Balance Cap 100 Gm

7. Flight Test Lab

Flight Test lab undertakes the certification of ADRDE developed products, based on testing of its various functional parameters in actual/simulated flight trials. The flight test section prepares simulated dummy loads and packing of parachutes. The flight test lab also arrange the live jump trials on indigenously developed parachutes systems.

8. Prototype Fabrication Wing (Mechanical)

Prototype Fabrication Wing (Mechanical) is fitted with conventional machines and have the facilities of machining, Tool and Die Making, Press work, , Fitting, Heat Treatment, ASC and Gas Welding (Ferrous), Finishing etc. Wing is engaged in the development and fabrication of Tooling, metal component, system integration, appliances/ machines repairing and maintenance, modifications of components and preparation of test samples for chemical analysis, wing has achieved the goal of fabrication of metal components for Target Sleeve Radar Responsive for Air Defence Artillery Practice, Aircraft Arrester Barrier System, Brake Parachute Mirage-2000 A/c, Modular Platform and Trolley for AN-32 A/c, Brake Parachute SU-30 A/c, payload truss for Balloon Imaging & Surveillance System, Parachute BMK-41, PSM Series, C-3-3 Strata cloud, PTA (Main) PSU- 36 Rotating Canopy and Module Parachute for Prithvi Warhead.

9. Prototype Fabrication Wing (Textile)

Prototype Fabrication Wing (Textile) undertakes fabrication of the prototype parachute systems and all other accessories based on the design and drawing generated within ADRDE. It also undertakes limited series production of the parachute systems and carries out regular repairs of parachutes for the Armed Forces. Wing is equipped with :

  • High Frequency/Radio Frequency sealing machine for fabrication of inflatables
  • Impulse heat sealing machine for fabrication of inflatables

10. Technical Information Centre

Technical Information Centre (TIC) is a vital part of Aerial Delivery Research & Development Establishment (ADRDE). It is centralized place to maintain & upgrade the information/knowledge by safe keeping technical books, journals, standard, reference books, design data reference books, periodicals, design reports & specifications etc and to provide quick & smooth access to scientist, technical staff and other personnel.

TIC started functioning with very small infrastructure & resources in the year 1966 which is the inception year of ADRDE. TIC has grown and now maintains technical collections of almost all fields in the realm of Science, engineering and technologies including special collection related to our own R & D work. Today, it has a collection of more than 15000 Technical publications, books etc in order to meet ADRDE requirements. E-Journals like AIAA, IEEE, Jane's, AAAS and Natural Publishing Group can also be accessed from any of the ADRDE internet PCs.

11. Photo & Video Lab

Photo & Video Lab is a technical support section to provide support during trial events of various projects of establishment.
