The  extreme altitude research station at Changla is listed in the Guinness World  Records (2017) as the highest altitude terrestrial research station (17,664 ft)  in the world. The facility was inaugurated by Dr S Christopher, Secretary,  Department of Defence R&D and DG DRDO in presence of Lt Gen BK Chopra, DG  Armed Forces Medical Services, Dr. Manas Mondal, DG (LS), DRDO, Lt Gen Velu Nair, DCIDS (Med), Shri Ajay Singh, Chief Executive, Civil Works and Estates. The  centre is 75 km ahead of Leh town towards Pangong Lake.
