Dr. Mohammed Nasim, Scientist ‘G’, born on 1 Nov 1956, has been appointed as Director, Defence Institute of Bio-Energy Research (DIBER) Haldwani w.e.f. March 04, 2013. He obtained his Post-Graduation in Organic Chemistry from A.M.U. Aligarh in 1977 and M.Tech. from IIT Delhi in 1979.
He joined DRDO in 1980, at Defence Materials & Stores Research and Development Establishment (DMSRDE), Kanpur, as Scientist ‘B’. He was awarded USSR government fellowship for higher studies in 1987 for a period of four years. Dr. Nasim worked at the Department of Chemistry at Moscow State University, Moscow, USSR from 1987 to 1991 with Prof. V.S. Petrosyan and Dr. G.S. Zaitseva. He was awarded his Ph.D. degree in 1991 from Moscow State University Moscow, USSR. He was President of Indian Scholars, at Moscow State University from 1989 to 1991. He joined DMSRDE, Kanpur in October 1991, after completing his Ph.D. degree.
He was transferred to G-FAST, DRDO HQ on 30.05.2003 and after completing the tenure at G-FAST, he joined back to parent lab, DMSRDE, Kanpur on 02.01.2006.
Dr. Nasim has successfully completed several important R&D projects as a project leader and contributed significantly in the development of multifunctional materials i.e. Radar Absorbing Materials (RAM) for Stealth Applications, Single Source Precursors for growth of CdTe Thin films and Nanophotovoltaic Materials from group II-VI (CdTe, CdSe) & I-III-VI (CuInGaSe2, CuInGaS2) Semiconductor for Electronic and Solar Cell Applications, Hybrid Inorganic-Organic Materials, LED Materials and Materials for NBC Defence Technologies. He also contributed significantly in Organosilicon and Metallatrane Chemistry with special reference to Silatranes (Fullerene and Phosphazene substituted)/Germatranes and Gallatranes (potential materials for GaN).
He has published 32 research publications in the Journals of National and International repute, 45 papers presented in the National and International Seminars. 5 Patents and 5 technical reports are also in his credit.
He received Two DRDO Laboratory Technology Group Awards in the year 2006 & 2008 for “Innovative research towards the development of Hybrid Inorganic-organic Polymeric Materials” and “development of Binary and Ternary Compound Semiconductors for Electronic Applications” respectively. He is the life members of Indian Society of Mass Spectrometry, Carbon Society of India and Indian Council of Chemists.
Dr. Nasim deputed abroad i.e. UK, Brazil, Poland, USSR (Kiev-Ukraine, Riga, Irkutsk) for presenting papers in International Conferences and also visited few countries i.e. Germany, Holland, Belgium, Czechoslovakia and Saudi Arabia.
