Civil Works and Estates

Historical Background

Works services for DRDO are generally entrusted to MES who plan and execute them through Defence Works Procedure 1986. In 1985, for planning and execution of time bound works, an in-house R&D Construction Establishment (RDCE) was created. Under the RDCE, Chief Construction Engineers were entrusted with the task of planning and execution of Specialised works services. Today the DRDO Civil Works Organization is responsible for creating infrastructure for DRDO through two Chief Engineers (MES), four Chief Construction Engineers (RDCE) and six Estate Management Units (EMUs).
